The Human Rights Access, Peace and Justice Foundation otherwise called HURIJE, has called on the Federal Government, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to probe corruption and high level of impunity going on at Nigeria Inland Water Authority, NIWA.
These where parts of ”Charter of demands” made by the group on Wednesday, 29th November, 2018 as they walked through major roads in Onitsha, Anambra state.
The Rights group with various banners and placards with different write ups such as; “Human Rights Liberty Access And Peace Foundation (HURIJE) Demands EFCC to probe NIWA Now. Illegal commercialization of Government property, NRC Party House, Ejection of over 200 Policemen, Excavation of sand around River Niger Bank.” “Recall policemen flush out of party house”, Probe NIWA business with Onitsha business man”, Nigeria doesn’t belong to Ngozi Okpagu, among others.
Addressing newsmen, the secretary of the group, Mr Charles Ejefonye called on FG and EFCC to probe the activities of Ngozi Okpagu and bring her to book.
“The building housing the defunct NRC has been contracted to a business man. It will soon become a motor Park or a plaza,” the scribe said.
The protest, which lasted for hours, we gathered was well coordinated and controlled to avoid infiltration by miscreants.
It would be recalled ,that the MD of NIWA, Senator Adeleke Mamora had earlier visited the facilities and publicly decried the level of decay and impunity within the premises.
