Full-scale crisis was averted in Ogbaru Main Market yesterday following the spontaneous show down by the traders of Ogbaru Main Market over an alleged imposition of Caretaker Committee on the market by the Anambra State Commissioner for Commerce, Industries, Markets and Wealth Creation, Dr. Christian Madubuko.
The traders of the market also known as Relief Market were said to have been angered by the undue meddlesomeness of the Commissioner in the market and decided to shut it down to show their anger.
However, the timely intervention of the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Primus Odili and the President-General, Amalgamated Traders of Anambra State (AMATAS), Chief Okwudili Ezenwankwo with the help of some Police men from Awka were said to have saved the situation.
The traders who had shut down the market, preventing everybody from having access to the market including the alleged chairman of the Committee later reopened the market for normal business activities to resume after the intervention of Odili and Ezenwankwo.
Since the removal of the substantive chairman of the market, Chief Victor Nwawuzie, the market has not known peace.
The Secretary of the market, Chief Chinedu Ijezie, was appointed to replace Nwawuzie but after three months and some days, he was removed by the Commissioner.
Ijezie was replaced by Buknor but the Commissioner was alleged not to be happy with him and was to impose one Ndubuisi Ochiogu led Caretaker Committee on the market yesterday.
When contacted the Chairman of the Market, said he was heading to Awka where he was invited and therefore could not speak on the matter.
When contacted on his cellphone to comment on the matter, it was ringing not available.
Meanwhile there was a shoot-out at the Market by the security when Ochiogu allegedly attempted to take over the office of the market.
